Do humidifiers help?

Ideal home humidity is between 30% and 50% relative humidity (RH). Humidity lower than 30% causes difficulty sleeping, dry mouth and cavities, nosebleeds, dry skin, dermatitis, cracked lips, dry coughs, and dry eyes. Dry air also makes it easier to catch the cold or flu.
Most pets and plants should be kept in 30% and 50% relative humidity for ideal health. Dry air can damage hardwood floors, musical instruments, and leather couches.
In the winter, home heating frequently causes humidity to drop below the ideal humidity levels, resulting in dry air. If you experience any of the below-listed symptoms during the winter, your home may be too dry. You may benefit from a humidifier.
